Cubs Even Series In Texas
It may have taken an extra inning but the Cubs (20-24) were able to even up the the series in the Lone Star state vs. the Rangers (25-19).
The Cubs were able to stay in the game thanks to the effort of their starting pitcher Randy Wells (3-2). Wells pitched 8.1 innings and allowed only 3 runs to a dangerous Texas club. Wells allowed a run in the 2nd but it was the 4th when the Rangers did most of their damage. Vlad Guerrero and Nelson Cruz both went deep. Luckily for Wells and the Cubs, they were both solo shots.
Those homeruns only tied the game however thanks to both Alfonso Soriano (8) and Starlin Castro (2) who both touched Rangers starter Derrek Holland (2-0) for homeruns.
There was no more scoring until the 10th inning, in which the Cubs took a 5-3 lead on RBIs by Derrek Lee and Mike Fontenot.
Carlos Marmol pitched the bottom half of the 10th and picked up save number 8. It wasn’t easy however as Marmol allowed the Rangers to pull within 1 on a Ian Kinsler RBI single.
The Cubs will send Carlos Silva (5-0) to the mound in an attempt to win the series. C.J. Wilson (3-1) will start for the Rangers in the rubber match.
