Seattle — Felix Hernandez followed up Cliff Lee’s complete game with another nine inning effort, but it was not enough to decide the final game between the Cubs and Mariners at Safeco Field. The Cubs snapped the Mariners 6 game winning streak with a 3-2 win in 13 innings.

The Cubs took the lead with a one out single from Marlon Byrd to right field that plated Alfonso Soriano in the top of the 13th. Bob Howry combined with Tom Gorzelanny, who earned his first career save, to preserve the win. Ted Lilly threw 6 innings of one run baseball while Hernandez tossed all nine of regulation allowing just two runs. Jack Wilson had three hits for the Mariners and drove in the tying run in the seventh with a ground rule double to left.
