Cubs 3, Pirates 1

Chicago — Alfonso Soriano provided all the offense Ted Lilly (3-6) with two solo home runs off Pirates starter Jeff Karstens (2-3). It was Soriano’s second multi-homer game of the season. Lilly stifled the Pirates going 7 innings allowing just a solo home run to Ryan Doumit in the 5th. Carlos Marmol pitched a perfect 9th for his 14th save of the season.

Koyie Hill added a pair of doubles in the Cubs win, who beat the Bucs for only the 3rd time in 11 tries this season. The Pirates are 8-3 now against the Cubs on the year, but just 18-48 against the rest of baseball.

The Cubs place LHP John Grawbow (knee) on the 15 day DL and Carlos Zambrano on the Restricted List. LHP James Russell and RHP Jeff Stevens were recalled from Triple-A Iowa.
