Cubs Minor League Update 8/12
Mixed bag last night, hitting prospects took the night off though.
Iowa Cubs (AAA)- Lost to Portland 5-4
Jay Jackson had a solid start, pitching six innings and allowing two earned runs. He had four strikeouts and no walks, but did allow six hits. Jackson appears to be recovered from his ill-advised trip to the bullpen, which led to some bad starts as he worked his arm back into shape. Jackson got a base hit as well, and has a .308 batting average this season.
Darwin Barney celebrated his call to the big leagues by going 0-4. He’s ready now.
Marquez Smith (3B) went 2-4 with a home run and 3 RBI.
Tennessee Smokies (AA)- Beat Hunstville 2-0
Rafeal Dolis had a tough act to follow after Chris Archer’s start, but he held his own with five shutout innings. Dolis allowed five hits and two walks, he also racked up five strikeouts. He will probably get called up in September.
No Brett Jackson last night.
Robinson Chirinos (C) went 0-2 with a walk.
Tony Thomas (2B) went 0-3.
Daytona Cubs (High-A)- Beat Tampa 6-3
Alberto Cabrera got the start, and pitched very well. Over five and two-thirds innings, he allowed two runs on four hits and a walk. Cabrera amassed eight strikeouts, and his High-A ERA now sits at 3.63.
D.J. LeMahieu (3B) had a monster day at the plate, going 2-4 with a walk and 4 RBI.
Junior Lake (SS) went 2-4 with 2 runs scored.
Peoria Chiefs (Low-A)- Lost to Beliot 7-4
Nicholas Struck didn’t technically start, but he pitched the longest. The “starter” went 1 2/3 innings before Struck took over. He went six and a third innings allowing no runs on four hits and a walk. He struck out six, and his season ERA is now 3.20.
Hak-Ju Lee (SS) went 1-6 and committed his 31st error of the season.
Jae-Hoon Ha (RF) went 1-5 with a RBI and a caught stealing.
Logan Watkins (2B) went 1-4 with a walk.
Boise Hawks (Rookie)- Beat Tri-City 4-3
Juan Yasser Serrano (no relation to Pedro) gave the Hawks five strong innings in his start. He allowed only one run on three hits and walk against four strikeouts.
Kyung-Min Na (CF) went 1-4 with 2 RBI
AZL Cubs- Lost to AZL Brewers 14-4
I put up this team’s score because I want to see how Reggie Golden progresses, but he doesn’t seem to ever play.
