Sox vs. Tigers Recap
The Sox continued to struggle vs. AL Central opponents, going 6-8 thus far. This series was yet another missed opportunity after miss opportunity. With RISP the Sox went 6/28, a .214 average. The Sox won the first game 6-4 but dropped the final 2 by decisions of 4-2 and 7-3.
The starting pitching wasn’t perfect. Mark Buehrle earned the win in game 1 going 6 solid innings, the patented Mark Buehrle start lots of hits (10) low runs (3). Edwin Jackson looked rough early but regained his composure and turned in a decent start, allowing 2 ER in his 6 innings. The killer was Jake Peavy’s start, in the finale. Peavy was on cruise control through the first 3 but ended up only going 4 innings giving up 6 ER, all in the 4th.
The White Sox hitting, as a whole, left much to be desired. Carlos Quentin, despite going 9/36 in his previous 10, turned in a strong series going 3/7 with 3 RBI and a HR. Brent Morel also had an excellent series compiling a .545 batting average. The problems were the usual suspects; Adam Dunn, Alex Rios and Gordon Beckham all 3 were below the Mendoza line for the series.
