Blackhawks Invite Ray Emery To Camp

The Chicago Blackhawks have confirmed that goaltender Ray Emery, 28, has been invited to tryout with the team at training camp. Emery suffered a serious hip injury in 2010 when he was with the Philadelphia Flyers and his future was uncertain.

Miraculously, he made a full recovery and signed a one-year deal with the Anaheim Ducks in March last season after their All-Star netminder Jonas Hiller’s season ended with a head injury. Emery went 7-2 with a 2.28 GAA and a .928 save percentage during the regular season and guided the Ducks into the playoffs where they fell to the Nashville Predators in the first round.

Ray Emery also led the Ottawa Senators to the Stanley Cup Finals in 2007.

So, what does this mean for the Blackhawks?

Simple: If they like what they see at camp from Emery, they sign him. If not, they let him go and he becomes an unrestricted free agent. Alexander Salak is penciled in as the backup as of right now, but if the Blackhawks sign Ray Emery, he could be sent down to Rockford.

The Blackhawks have until October 1st to make a decision.
