    WHITE SOX

    Peavy shut down

    • September 10, 2011

According to a Scott Merkin Tweet, White Sox Pitcher Jake Peavy has been shut down for the remainder of the 2011 season. Peavy said Saturday, “With the way we are playing and with how it looks for us winning, and just where we are at in the season, they made a decision to start to rest and the recovery in the offseason period and try to get strong for next year,”

Peavy has been trying to work back from a unique shoulder surgery.

This year Peavy went 7-7 with a 4.92ERA, not exactly what Peavy was looking to do, but he is happy that he has been to pitch at all, “Like I said, there are times last winter where I didn’t know if I’d ever throw again,”

There were some bights spots, including a complete game shutout against Cleveland and a solid 4 inning relief appearance against the Nationals.

There has been no announcement as to his replacement but White Sox MLB.com Beat Writer, Scott Merkin feels it will be Dylan Axelrod. Axelrod, 26, went 9-3 with a 2.69 ERA over 26 combined appearances for AA and AAA.

This I felt would happen as it was announced as a possibility by Mark Gonzales. It will be good to give Peavy a full offseason to rest and get healthy for 2012, especially since the Sox aren’t playing for anything at this point.
