CCS Fantasy Football Rankings: Week 8

    • by Steve Ulaszek
    • October 28, 2011

Uman85 here with my fantasy football rankings for Week 8, position by position. Need to know who the best of the best are at each position? Look no further!

    Top 10 Quarterbacks

    1. Drew Brees, New Orleans – With Aaron Rodgers on a bye, somebody has to take his place atop the QB ladder. Who better than Drew Brees? After he and the Saints torched Indianapolis on Sunday Night Football, the Rams now get the unlucky task of trying to stop Brees and New Orleans. Anyone up for an encore?

    2. Cam Newton, Carolina – He’s putting up fantasy points by the bunches. Next victim? A Minnesota defense that gave up 39 to the Bears and 33 to the Packers.

    3. Tom Brady, New England – No top 5 is complete without Brady. He is many things, and clutch sure is one of them. The Steelers have been suspect against the pass this year and let’s be honest, nobody can shut down the Pats’ O.

    4. Ben Roethlisberger, Pittsburgh – This is a debatable spot for Big Ben, but going against a porous New England secondary means he’s going to put up some points for your fantasy team. A shootout looms in the Steel city come Sunday.

    5. Eli Manning, New York Giants – He may not be one of the “elite” quarterbacks in the league, but he’s going to pile up points against Miami on Sunday.

    6. Tony Romo, Dallas
    7. Matthew Stafford, Detroit
    8. Matt Schaub, Houston
    9. Michael Vick, Philadelphia
    10. Philip Rivers, San Diego

    Top 10 Running Backs

    1. Adrian Peterson, Minnesota – Is there any way to contain AP? That’s a rhetorical question. No matter who he faces, he’s going to run and run wild.

    2. Arian Foster, Houston – Foster is coming off of an outstanding performance against Tennessee. What’s next for Arian? A Jacksonville squad that somehow kept Ray Rice in check. Think they can do it again? Don’t hold your breath.

    3. Ray Rice, Baltimore – Rice was a complete non-factor Monday night against the Jaguars. He and the Ravens are an angry group of birds right now ready to take flight and attack. I’d hate to be an Arizona defender come Sunday afternoon.

    4. Fred Jackson, Buffalo – He’s been a consistent offensive threat all year. I don’t see this train coming off the tracks at any point in the future. Jackson can and will put up points on the Redskins.

    5. Frank Gore, San Francisco – Gore had a slow start to the 2011 campaign, but is quickly erasing any doubt that may have come about. Look for Frank to continue rolling against a Cleveland defense that is one of the worst at stopping the run.

    6. LeSean McCoy, Philadelphia
    7. Ahmad Bradshaw, New York Giants
    8. Maurice Jones-Drew, Jacksonville
    9. Ryan Mathews, San Diego
    10. Chris Johnson, Tennessee

    Top 10 Wide Receivers

    1. Calvin Johnson, Detroit – Megatron is a scoring machine. Whether Stafford plays or not, Megatron’s mission is clear and will not be terminated.

    2. Wes Welker, New England – The Patriots have a slew of receiving targets, but none are targeted as much or as often as Welker. He and Brady have a connection that can only be shut off once they reach the end zone.

    3. Steve Smith, Carolina – Smith is Newton’s go-to guy, similar to Welker in New England without the options Brady benefits from. Covered or not, Smith finds a way to make plays and has consistently put up the points this year. That’s not going to stop against the Vikings.

    4. Mike Wallace, Pittsburgh – Hamstring? What hamstring? Wallace looked fine, despite a sore hamstring this past Sunday pulling in a 95-yard touchdown reception and outrunning Arizona’s secondary on the way. Facing a weak secondary against New England, Wallace should have a field day once again.

    5. Marques Colston, New Orleans – Since coming off the injured list two weeks ago, Colston hasn’t wasted any opportunity to make up for the time he lost the past couple weeks before. He’s been Brees’ favorite target and will continue to be so in the weeks ahead.

    6. Andre Johnson, Houston
    7. Hakeem Nicks, New York Giants
    8. Larry Fitzgerald, Arizona
    9. Dwayne Bowe, Kansas City
    10. Vincent Jackson, San Diego

    Top 10 Tight Ends

    1. Jimmy Graham, New Orleans
    2. Jason Witten, Dallas
    3. Antonio Gates, San Diego
    4. Fred Davis, Washington
    5. Aaron Hernandez, New Orleans
    6. Owen Daniels, Houston
    7. Rob Gronkowski, New England
    8. Brandon Pettigrew, Detroit
    9. Vernon Davis, San Francisco
    10. Greg Olsen, Carolina

    Top 10 Kickers

    1. Jason Hanson, Detroit
    2. John Kasay, New Orleans
    3. Dan Bailey, Dallas
    4. Billy Cundiff, Baltimore
    5. Neil Rackers, Houston
    6. David Akers, San Francisco
    7. Stephen Gostkowski, New England
    8. Nick Novak, San Diego
    9. Olindo Mare, Carolina
    10. Alex Henery, Philadelphia

    Top 10 Defense/Special Teams Units

    1. Baltimore Ravens
    2. San Francisco 49ers
    3. New Orleans Saints
    4. New York Giants
    5. Dallas Cowboys
    6. Detroit Lions
    7. Cincinnati Bengals
    8. Houston Texans
    9. Buffalo Bills
    10. Philadelphia Eagles

Those are my rankings for Week 8. Best of luck to all the fantasy players out there. See you next week!
