Blackhawks Crush Canucks 5-1

The Chicago Blackhawks open their circus trip by storming into Vancouver and knocking off the Canucks 5-1 extending their win streak to 4 games. For a full breakdown of the game, here is ESPN’s take on the blowout win for the Hawks.
After a scoreless first period, Jannik Hansen opened up the scoring in the early seconds of the second period off a nice feed from Henrik Sedin. It went all downhill after that.

Andrew Brunette and Patrick Kane capitalized on both power plays in the second putting the Blackhawks up 2-1. Jonathan Toews, Patrick Sharp, and Steve Montador each tacked on a goal in the third period in a span of 4:03 sealing the deal.

The Blackhawks played one of the most complete games they’ve played all season and it couldn’t have come at a better time as they enter their 6-game road trip.

Patrick Kane, Jonathan Toews, and Marian Hossa each had multi-point games for the Blackhawks. Corey Crawford was sensational all game stopping 28 of 29 shots faced.

As for the defense: No Seabrook? No problem. Duncan Keith logged just under 30 minutes of ice time far better than any other skater on both teams. Niklas Hjalmarsson stepped up and had a quietly effective game blocking 6 shots, which also led both teams. Steve Montador remained on fire adding a goal and an assist. He now has 6 points in his last 4 games.

After allowing 5 power play goals to Vancouver in the last meeting, the Blackhawks didn’t even give the league’s best power play a shot at the man advantage. The power play stayed hot as well converting 2 of 3 chances.

WHAT’S NEXT?
The Blackhawks don’t have to travel very far heading to Calgary on Friday; puck drop at 8:00pm CT! In non-Chicago news, the Boston Bruins will play the next 3 games on the road and then come home for 2-game stretch. If you’re a Boston fan, make sure you get your Bruins tickets¬†quick!
