It’s Friday. You just got paid. You want to go out drinking. Obviously. You’ve been to your local pub hundreds of times before. You’re looking for something different. Something a little more… exciting.
Friday night at Big Joe’s they have turtle races. Yeah, you read that right. Turtle races. Now, don’t go rushing to your local PETA representative; the turtles are well cared for and don’t end up in the soup at the end of the night.
The premise is simple. Spend money at the bar, get raffle tickets. If your number is picked, you get to pick a turtle. If your turtle races to the outside ring the fastest, you get a shirt and the chance to race in the finals for bigger prizes.
It may seem silly (it is), but it is A BLAST. By the time you have enough tickets to get picked, you’ll be drunk enough to scream for your turtle to win it all.
It does get packed (click the pic on the right), so get there early and get to work gathering tickets!
Big Joe’s is up at 1818 W Foster, so it’s out of the way (and kinda shady), but it’s worth the trip.
Oh, and try not to get stuck with Jolanda, you’ll understand why after the first race.
What time do the races start?
