Hawks Extend Q’s Contract

The Chicago Blackhawks have agreed to terms with Head Coach Joel Quenneville and extended his contract for 3 more years. With one season remaining on Quenneville’s existing contract and his second Stanley Cup in just three seasons, Stan Bowman and the rest of the city of Chicago knew that Q and his ‘stache should stay.

“We wanted Joel back,” said Bowman during Friday’s press conference. “[Negotiations] went very smoothly.”

Quenneville has been solidified as Chicago’s head coach until the end of the 2017 – 2018 season and feels “privileged” to stay with the Blackhawks.

During his 16 year head coach career, Quenneville has earned himself a Jack Adams trophy for the best coach in the NHL (2000), 2 Stanley Cups, and over 600 wins, only the 10th coach in NHL history to do so.

As for how to handle the Stanley Cup Hangover, Quenneville has been there before.

“We’ve dealt with the hangover before,” Quenneville said at the press conference. “Looking forward to getting back on the ice soon, but let’s enjoy the summer for now, too.”

Considering the 6th annual Blackhawks’ Convention this weekend at the Hilton Hotel in Chicago, the city of Chicago loves Quenneville, and also¬†his ‘stache on Twitter, it’s a great day for everyone involved in Chicago hockey.
