The Bears are currently dealing with numerous injuries.

BOURBONNAIS- By now everyone is aware of the many injured players that are currently on the Bears roster. Running back Armando Allen is one of the most recent injuries. During Sunday’s practice it was announced that the former Fighting Irish star was taken out of practice early due to a hamstring injury. As of Monday he was listed as week-to-week.

Just in case Allen is not able to go against San Diego on Thursday night, the Bears decided to put a contingency plan into place. They did so by signing former Chargers running back Curtis Brinkley. Between 2010 and 2012, Brinkley played in 23 games in Southern California. And in that time, he compiled 227 rushing yards with one touchdown. He also has 149 kick return yards on his resume.

It is expected that he will immediately compete with rookie Michael Ford for the number three spot on the running back depth chart. Ford made quite the impression against Carolina in last week’s preseason opener. He has also earned the respect of his teammates and coaches thus far {with some flaws here and there}, so Brinkley will have his work cut out for him once he gets into camp. Brinkley played his college ball at Syracuse. It’ll be interesting to see how the two of them work together.

It’ll also be interesting to see how both men will be used this coming Thursday. In order to make room for Brinkley, the Bears parted ways with wide receiver Marcus Rucker.
