Fire, MacDonald Mutually Agree To Part Ways; Rios Signing Official

Since the acquisition of Mike Magee, the Fire have sought to loan out striker Sherjill MacDonald.  The under-performing striker scored just four goals in twenty-seven matches with the Fire, all in 2012, and playing time had become sparse as the season progressed.

The urgency to move the Dutch international increased over the past several days, as the team needed to clear an international slot for incoming designated player Arévalo Rios.

MacDonald was the highest paid player on the team, making $527,125 per season.  Rios will take over the second free designated player slot from MacDonald, and could be available to debut on Saturday in New England pending receipt of both his International Transfer Certificate and P1 Visa.

The Fire had sought to loan MacDonald to another club in Europe, but without any takers, the striker will have to negotiate a deal with another team himself.
