Chicago Cubs Sign Wesley Wright to a 1-Year Contract

According to Bob Nightengale of USA Sports Today, the Chicago Cubs have signed left-handed relief pitcher Wesley Wright to a 1-year contract worth $1.425M.

Wright started last season with the Houston Astros and he was traded to the Tampa Bay Rays mid-season. During last season, Wright posted a 3.69 earn run average in 70 games and 53,2 innings. Wright gave up 54 hits, 7 home runs, 19 walks and struck out 55 batters. Wright is 28-years old and will turn 29 on January 28th.

Wright would have been up for his 2nd year of arbitration, but the Rays instead decided to non-tender him on Monday. The Cubs have the rights to Wright next season as he still have one more year left of arbitration. If Wright has a good season, the Cubs will likely tender him a contract and he will return for 2015.

As of today, Wright will be the second lefty in the bullpen along side James Russell.
