Fire Name C.J. Brown Assistant Coach

The Chicago Fire Soccer Club announced on Wednesday that former Fire center back C.J. Brown has been named an assistant coach under new head coach Frank Yallop.

Brown, a member of the Ring of Fire and two-time Chicago Fire Defender of the Year in 2006 and again in 2010, had spent the last three seasons as an assistant coach of Real Salt Lake.  Since joining the club based in Sandy, Utah, Brown helped lead the club to a second place finish in CONCACAF Champions League in 2011, finals appearances in both the 2013 MLS Cup and the 2013 U.S. Open Cup, an additional Western Conference Finals berth in 2011, second place regular season finishes in the Western Conference in 2011 and 2012, and a pair of Rocky Mountain Cups over rival Colorado in 2011 and 2012.

As a player, the former United States Men’s National Team member played thirteen seasons as a member of the Fire, from 1998 to 2010 following a three year tenure with the third division San Francisco Bay Seals.  Brown played in 296 games for the Fire, scoring three goals and being a part of the teams that won all six major honors the team has collected: the MLS Cup in 1998, the Supporters’ Shield in 2003, and four Lamar U.S. Open Cups in 1998, 2000, 2003, and 2006.

The addition of Brown brings the Fire coaching staff up to four members, including Head Coach and Director of Soccer Frank Yallop, Technical Director Brian Bliss, Brown, and Strength and Conditioning Coach Tony Jonaux.
