The legendary New York Cosmos brand was officially revived when the team began play in the North American Soccer League’s Fall season in 2013.  Starting goalkeeper Kyle Reynish helped lead the team without a Pelé or a Beckenbauer to the second half championship, setting up a trip to Atlanta in which the Cosmos defeated the Silverbacks in the Soccer Bowl.

Empire of Soccer, a blog dedicated to the four professional soccer teams in the New York area, reported on Tuesday that Reynish would soon be signed by the Fire as the primary backup to starting goalkeeper Sean Johnson.

Reynish previously spent time in Major League Soccer as a backup to Real Salt Lake’s Nick Rimando, and while he would still see a backup role in Chicago, Johnson could see time with the United States National Team, leaving a vacancy in net for the club team.  Former second-string goalkeeper Paolo Tornaghi parted ways with the club this offseason.

The report suggests that the Fire could make the signing official within “the next few days.”
