Venric Mark Leaves Northwestern

Northwestern Wildcats running back Venric Mark has decided to transfer to another school. Mark was suspended for the first 2 games this coming season but said he accepted the consequences and looked forward to getting back on the field. It was announced today that Mark will transfer due to personal reasons. The news release from the school today stated that he is departing for “personal reasons, with a desire to play football this season closer to family.”

Northwestern head coach Pat Fitzgerald said, “it’s a difficult day for our football family and, most importantly, for Venric. We love him, and there is no doubt that we’re going to miss him as both a person and player. But this is unquestionably what is best for Venric and those closest to him.” Mark had a big season in 2012 when he rushed for 1,366 yards and was an All-America 1st team punt returner. He also holds the records for single game (273), single season (915), and career (1,881) kickoff return yards in Northwestern history. In addition to those records, he also has the most punt return yards (134) in a single game in the team’s history.
