Northwestern’s senior linebacker and team captain Collin Ellis retired from football Monday after suffering multiple concussions through the season according to BIGTENNATION. Ellis was a redshirt senior this season.

The 6’2 235 lb linebacker from The Dunham School recorded 33 tackles for the season, averaging 7.2 tackles per game, which is second on the team. Ellis recorded his career-high in tackles in the first game of the season against the California GoldenBears with 12 tackles.

Ellis is the third Northwestern player to retire this season due to injury.

Cornerbacks Dwight White and Daniel Jones both retired this year because of injuries, with White’s being the more recent after discovering he had one kidney.

The Wildcats find themselves losers of four straight and will be heading to South Bend this week to take on a tough Notre Dame Fighting Irish team Saturday.
