The Chicago White Sox have selected pitcher Carson Fulmer out of Vanderbilt with the 8th overall pick in the 2015 MLB Draft. The Florida native was previously selected in the 15th round of the 2012 MLB Draft by the Boston Red Sox and decided to attend Vanderbilt University.
Fulmer began his career at Vandy as a reliever, but the right-hander was moved to the rotation his sophomore year. This year Fulmer has been electric giving up only 23 earned runs and a 1.92 ERA. He’s helped lead a very good Vanderbilt team back to Omaha for the College World Series after defeating Illinois.
The White Sox decided to go with pitching in the first round for the second consecutive year after selecting Carlos Rodon last year. The plan will likely be to have Fulmer start and be in a rotation featuring ace Chris Sale and Rodon.
