Chicago White Sox agree to deal with Mat Latos

The Chicago White Sox have attempted to boost their starting rotation on Tuesday, as they agreed to a deal with free agent pitcher Mat Latos.

The deal was first reported by ESPN’s Jerry Crasnick:

The deal is one-year and worth $3 million according to reports. Latos was projected to cash in on a monster free agent deal a few years ago but has now settled for just $3M with the White Sox, which should be considered a win for the organization.

Latos posted a 4.95 ERA in 116 1/3 innings last season for the Los Angeles Angels, as the White Sox are hoping he can bounce back. The 28-year-old will be used in the back of the rotation as the club has a stacked top order featuring Chris Sale, Carlos Rodon and Jose Quintana.

While it could be considered a risk, the gamble might be worth it as the White Sox do have some candidates they can insert in case Latos turns out to be a disaster.
