Chicago Cubs pitcher John Lackey returned to St. Louis for the first time since the 2015 season when he was a member of the Cardinals.

Last season Lackey was sent out on three days rest by manager Mike Matheny in game four between the Cubs and Cardinals at Wrigley Field. He took the loss, marking it the last time he’d pitch for the Cardinals and the last time the two teams met.

On Monday, Lackey dominated and showed the Cubs why they made the right move bringing him in this offseason. Lackey pitched 7 innings of 4-hit ball, giving up 0 runs and striking out 11 in his return.

The game was a pitchers duel until Dexter Fowler’s home run in the top of the sixth inning broke a scoreless game. From then on it was all Chicago as they scored 5 runs and shutout the Cardinals. The win means the Cubs are the first team to 10 wins in the majors. The two teams will continue their three-game series on Tuesday and Wednesday in St. Louis.
