Stephen Strasburg ties Kerry Wood MLB strikeout record
It was a record that stood for 13 years and was held by former Chicago Cubs ace Kerry Wood.
But on Wednesday, Washington Nationals pitcher Stephen Strasburg etched his name into the history books as well.
With his first inning strikeout of Los Angeles Dodgers shortstop Corey Seager, Strasburg tied Wood’s Major League record for the most strikeouts in a starting pitcher’s first 1,000 innings.

The strikeout of Seager gave Strasburg 1,166 strikeouts for his career and he didn’t eclipse the feat.
Wood set the record during the 2004 season, notching his 1,166th strikeout as a member of the Cubs.
He would go on to pitch for the Cleveland Indians and New York Yankees before returning to the Cubs later in his career. He finished with 1,582 strikeouts in 1,380 innings, including a 1998 game in which he struck out 20 batters.
