Report: Cubs offered Kyle Schwarber to Tigers
With the Chicago Cubs entering the 2017 MLB All-Star break a disappointing 43-45 and 5.5. games back, the rumors are starting to swirl.
Just before Saturday’s game against the Pittsburgh Pirates, Ken Rosenthal reported the Cubs could trade one of their young stars for a pitcher. Rosenthal noted it could be a way to shake things up after a poor first half.
But now the latest news involves Kyle Schwarber and the Tigers.
The struggling Schwarber was recently demoted to Triple-A before rejoining the team last week. Now his name is popping up in a report that states the Cubs offered Schwarber to the Tigers.
It just wasn’t for Justin Verlander.
Reporter Jim Bowden spoke on Sirius XM’s MLB Network radio and stated the Cubs called the Tigers about Daniel Norris and Michael Fulmer.

He goes on to say the Cubs specifically asked about Fulmer, the 2016 AL Rookie of the Year winner and then about Norris.
Coming from someone like Bowden means this thing has some legs to it.
It’s obvious the Cubs want a cost-controlled starter like Sonny Gray, Marcus Stroman, Verlander or Fulmer and Norris but they will certainly have to give up one of their young stars.
As the days go by, it seems more evident that the Cubs are ready to do just that.
