Report: Minnesota Twins making a run at Chicago Cubs reliever

With the Hot Stove season approaching at the MLB Winter Meetings, rumors are beginning to swirl.

The latest one involves the Chicago Cubs and the Minnesota Twins. According to the Pioneer Press’ Mike Berardino, the Twins could make a push for Cubs reliever Justin Wilson.

Here’s what Berardino tweeted Tuesday night:

The Cubs acquired Wilson in a trade with the Detroit Tigers along with Alex Avila for prospects Jeimer Candelario and Isaac Paredes. They made the deal to give them a solid left-handed reliever in their bullpen for the stretch run.

But Wilson didn’t pan out how the Cubs imagined it would.

Wilson had a 5.03 ERA in the second half of the season with the Cubs, after posting a 2.68 ERA with the Tigers. The reliever struggled with his command and walks as he was left off the NLCS roster.

The Cubs have hopes that Wilson can become a key piece in their bullpen next season. They will need to restructure it as the unit struggled as a whole for most of the season. If they get a good offer for Wilson, I wouldn’t be shocked to see them make the move.

Either way, the Cubs will likely have a decision to make.
