Chicago Cubs agree to deal with Tyler Chatwood

The Chicago Cubs have made a move in the 2017 MLB Offseason.

On Thursday, the team agreed to a three-year deal with starting pitcher Tyler Chatwood which adds some much-needed help to the backend of the Cubs rotation for 2018.

The Cubs made the deal for the right-handed pitcher official Thursday afternoon:

The three-year deal is worth $38M through the 2020 season for the 27-year-old who spent five seasons with the Colorado Rockies. Chatwood has been fantastic on the road in the past two seasons.

Since 2016, Chatwood is tied with Washington’s Stephen Strasburg for the second-best road ERA in the NL at 2.57. That trails only Clayton Kershaw of the Los Angeles Dodgers who has a 2.16 ERA on the road in that time.

Chatwood’s groundball rate was fantastic in 2017:

The Cubs may have landed a steal in free agency and got some help for a rotation that needed to be addressed this offseason.
