The sequel to the successful launch of the Nike Epic React Flyknit is finally here.
Next up in the Epic React line is the “Nike Epic React Element 87” that made its debut on the runway in Paris, leaving sneakerheads wondering when we will see a possible street release. We now have that info and a little more.
Nike Sportswear’s special projects team developed the new shoe as they were equipped with a pressure maps and a drill. From there they tested with Nike’s new foam cushioning, drilling holes until they found the perfect combination. The creation turned out to be a new patterned midsole that features Nike’s React foam technology with a new pattern.
Here’s more from Nike’s official press release:
“At first, the whole process was one of those back-to-basics type of things,” explains Darryl Matthews, the Footwear Design Lead for NSW Innovation. “But then we took what we’d learned and applied it through computational design scripts. That’s when things really started clicking.”
The densities and pressure maps were figured through what is known as a tile (essentially the graphic part of an equation) to create a patterned midsole delineating where the drill experiments had realized those different densities but now perfectly scaled to every shoe size. In this action, the design of the Nike React Element 87 is similar to that of the Nike Epic React.
The React Elment 87 is a little looser than the Epic React on the upper that is made from a translucent shell. As for detailing, there is an exposed lace collar as well as exterior taping on the heel and trail-running style laces.
