He just got promoted from AA to AAA this year and I read he's been dealing with minor injuries throughout the year. This forum has been the ONLY place I have seen people argue about how the Nationals haven't won this trade. Every place I've read, scouts, writers, fans, have all said that the Twins overpaid for Matt Capps. Websites like Fangraphs, Rotoworld, ect. are all talking about how the Twins could have got a decent starting pitcher for the same player.
The only reason I was arguing this deal was because the player got was Matt Capps. He's a solid reliever, but not a great one. The Twins need a starting pitcher, not a reliever. They already have one of the best if not the best bullpen in the American League. Without Joe Nathan. Of course Wilson Ramos was going to get traded even with his struggles this year, but his value was still very high. Fangraphs pointed out that they likely could have got a much better starting pitcher for Ramos rather than Capps.
Just look at Soto throughout his minor league career. He was considered to have a pretty big upside, like Ramos, but their numbers are pretty similar. In fact, Ramos was better at the same age as Soto and is more hyped than he was. Ramos took a hit this year in his first year of AAA, but look at Soto. He had a similar drop in his stats when he hit AAA. There's still a Ramos is going to explode offensively like Soto. You can't base how good a player is based on one down year. If he can explode offensively, like scouts think he can, he'll have great defense, great power, and become a great catcher in the majors. Or he could become a total bust.
