Twins got cash in the deal too. I still think this was a pretty odd trade. I wouldn't have even excepted Ramos in a Ted Lilly trade. Capps is a pretty good reliever, but not worth that caliber of a prospect. That's like trading Josh Vitters for Capps.

Ramos has been their trading chip for like a year now.

Yeah, i forgot about that. But still, I think this was a pretty lopsided trade trading a humongous upside catcher like that for a reliever that they don't really need. He was the centerpiece for the proposed Cliff Lee deal, then he gets traded as the centerpiece for Matt Capps, a pitcher they don't really need.

Blocked by Mauer anyway. Now he just has to wait for Pudge to get his fat ass out of the way.

The funny thing is that the Nationals top prospect, Derek Norris, (at least until/if Bryce Harper signs) is also a catcher. However, they said he might move to 1st or something. I guess this means Harper for sure won't catch. Man, the Nats are going to be stacked in a couple of years. |

Now, please STFU about how the Nats won this deal.

He just got promoted from AA to AAA this year and I read he's been dealing with minor injuries throughout the year. This forum has been the ONLY place I have seen people argue about how the Nationals haven't won this trade. Every place I've read, scouts, writers, fans, have all said that the Twins overpaid for Matt Capps. Websites like Fangraphs, Rotoworld, ect. are all talking about how the Twins could have got a decent starting pitcher for the same player.
The only reason I was arguing this deal was because the player got was Matt Capps. He's a solid reliever, but not a great one. The Twins need a starting pitcher, not a reliever. They already have one of the best if not the best bullpen in the American League. Without Joe Nathan. Of course Wilson Ramos was going to get traded even with his struggles this year, but his value was still very high. Fangraphs pointed out that they likely could have got a much better starting pitcher for Ramos rather than Capps. Just look at Soto throughout his minor league career. He was considered to have a pretty big upside, like Ramos, but their numbers are pretty similar. In fact, Ramos was better at the same age as Soto and is more hyped than he was. Ramos took a hit this year in his first year of AAA, but look at Soto. He had a similar drop in his stats when he hit AAA. There's still a Ramos is going to explode offensively like Soto. You can't base how good a player is based on one down year. If he can explode offensively, like scouts think he can, he'll have great defense, great power, and become a great catcher in the majors. Or he could become a total bust. |

Trading a good C in the minors for a RP, I don't get it. Ramos will be an average catcher. Catchers are hard to find now in the MLB. Now what happens in Mauer gets injured again? Who will be there catcher because Ramos played good in his replacement. They should of trade Ramos for a SP, not a RP.
