The Big Ten isn't going to take just anybody. They'll look for three things: Academics, athletics, and market. Of course Nebraska is the oddball, with so-so academics, but it's tough to pass up that kind of football tradition and semi-national brand.
Using the main university ranking, US News, Iowa St is #275 in the world, but are their athletics that appealing for the Big Ten? Notre Dame around 200, getting them would completely tie together the Chicago market with Illinois/NW/ND, but aren't they tied up with their NBC contract? Vanderbilt is of course high, and they'd be a good basketball and baseball school for the Big Ten. They'd open up a new market as well. Cincinnati is rated a little below Iowa St., but OSU already has the Ohio market. ND and Texas are they easiest academic/athletic/market choices. |

What do they add besides a good track team? They really don't bring much in the Texas market. They're probably the 4th or 5th most relevant school in the state. Mediocre football team, decent basketball team.
Overall, the main thing you're adding with them is the track team, and that is not a money making sport. Academically they're tied with IU. Meh, (no offense to IU grads) but that's not like you're adding a Michigan or Northwestern or even a Minnesota. Baylor doesn't add anything really. They are rated ahead nationally of Missouri, so take that for whatever it's worth. |

There is no way texas will be joining the big ten. There is no way the rest of the league will vote them in. I honestly dont think the big ten will expand unless the other conferences go to 16. And if they do expand I personally think it will be Norte Dame, Missouri, Rutgers, and either Boston College, Kansas, Vanderbilt, or West Virginia. They want to expand their market so they can make more money with thier network. Those schools open up new markets where as schools like Iowa st do not.

ACC basketball is about to get disgustingly good.
Duke and UNC, of course.... Now 'Cuse and Pitt. wow. And word is that other teams interested may be UConn (makes sense) and Kansas (does not make much sense). Rutgers is in the mix as well. Not that we'll see any of this for a few years...pretty sure the Big East req's 27 mo. notice before a school bolts for another conference.

Texas is now likely headed to the Pac-12 with Oklahoma. Their AD has been in talks with the conference the past few days.

Oklahoma said "If Texas stays, we stay." even though they want Texas to scale back it's network (No high school games and no Big 12 conference matchups) and they want Big 12 commissioner Dan Beebe to resign. They blame him for the loss of Nebraska and Texas A&M. According to state Law, Oklahoma and Oklahoma State must remain in the sane conference so OSU will stay in the Big 12. Baylor has agreed to drop the lawsuit against Texas A&M if the other 9 teams remain in the Big 12, so A&M is free to move to the SEC. The rumor is that the Big 12 will pick up BYU to remain at 10 teams ... for another year or 2 anyway.
