Round 4: Harrison Smith; SS

I dont see how we can afford Vjax with the new cap restrictions. Honestly I doubt we do much in free agency.

The one thing about him is he would be pretty versatile. He is good on screens and short passes but is also a deep ball threat. It would be nice to have Devin Hester with a brain and hands and good route running that is what potentially he could be. But I feel Knox and Hester already do a decent job at that role so why not try to get a different type of playmaker? I would be ok with the pick because we need all the playmakers we can get but I think we can do better.

That is like saying Percy Harvin only got open in college because of Tebow. I think that isnt fair to his game Wright is better than you give him credit for. Wright is a good player in his own right I am just not sure he is what we need.

RG3 beat people with his arm more than he did with his legs also. RG3 is closer to a pocket passer than a scrambler. He just happens to be fast while having a great accurate arm in the the pocket. In the NFL I dont see RG3 burning past people like a Vick or a Newton he will almost be just a pocket passer IMO who if he needs to can escape at times.

I disagree, RG3 has issues locking onto his primary read. That's why Baylor's offense was fine-tuned towards him with read option, jet sweep, bubble screen, PA vertical concept (aka, playfake, look deep, if they're in a 4-shell then TAKE OFF) offense...But it's not a RG3 debate...so we'll save it for a different thread.

You have to think, what are we going to ask Kendall Wright to do...

With Tice as the OC, you're going to see a lot of 2-2-1 sets. That's 2 WRs, 2 RBs, 1 TE. It's not like Tice is going to ditch the run game. The guy was a TE coach coming into the league. Having a TE on the field often sacrifices the slot WR. You'll see where I'm going with this in a second...

That puts Wright (a first round pick) on the outside. We're going to ask him to block....a lot. With Mike Tice as the OC, and Matt Forte getting that Franchise Tag, you better be able to get physical with your corner and prevent him from making the run stop. I understand that run blocking isn't something that WRs get very closely graded on...but you better be damn well able to if you're going to play in Tice's system. He's going to need to get off the jam, also something that he doesn't grade very highly in.

Let's also be very real about the situation. Kendall's experience is as a slot WR. He's good in and out of his cuts, due to his elite speed. Tice is a 2-2-1 guy, and when he goes singleback, that stats have shown that he likes to employ a H-back to seal the edge for the single RB. So how "worth it" is a guy who's projected to be a slot WR, when Tice has proven over the years to use a H-back or fullback over a slot?

If we go WR, you know it's going to be someone physical who can isolate on the outside, get off the jam, and go get it...Not 5'10'' Kendall Wright, regardless of how fast he is.
