Default Rumor: Bears Interested in Stevie Johnson

vaughn mcclure @vxmcclure23

Three different people at Senior Bowl mentioned Stevie Johnson and the Bears in same sentence. Hes been working on new deal with Bills.

Johnson is represented by same agent (C.J. LaBoy) as Bears receiver Earl Bennett, who got a sweet four-year, $18 mil contract.

1. He is talented.

25 Years Old, 6'2" 210lbs., Back to Back 1000 yard seasons.

2. He will be significantly cheaper that Dwayne Bowe and Vincent Jackson.

3. He is an idiot.

But Lovie is a players coach and the Bears have a strong QB and locker room. Cutler kept Marshall's mental illness in check so I think he can handle Johnson.

Bowe and Jackson I believe are going to be 9 million a year guys, a little under Fitz, with at least 25 million guaranteed.

5 years 45 million/25 guaranteed.

Johnson is going to be a 6-7 million a year guy with probably under 20 million in the guaranteed money.

5 years 32 million/18 guaranteed

But how much is this moron going to ask for? He probably thinks he's Calvin Johnson and expects to be paid as such. I wouldn't mind him on the team if it doesn't stop the FO from actually drafting someone that isn't already a cancer.

i wouldn't want Johnson either. He has had a lot of key drops for the Bills in the last 2 years. He seems to have no problem getting open, he just has a problem consistently hanging onto the ball. Which is a problem if you're a WR.

Sure, he's better than knox, hester, williams, etc. but the Bears can do better. I don't want to settle for " at least it's better than what we have."

I personally don't like it. I think he would be the 8th or 9th best receiving option we could get this off season. I would take VJack, Bowe, Colston, Jeffery, Floyd, Davis (TE), Jones, and maybe even Shockey. We need a true top talent to go with a rookie with talent and potential. We can get a Bowe or VJack in free agency and a second round wr like Jones or even better would be to trade the 2 thirds for BMarsh and that saves some money for other needs like TE or DB in free agency. With the cap that we have there should be no reason not to fill most of our holes.
