Not too long ago it was 2006, and the Carolina Hurricanes had just defeated the Edmonton Oilers in the Stanley Cup Finals.

Winning goaltender and Conn Smythe winner?

Cam Ward.

Throughout the 2005-06 season the Hurricanes stomped through their schedule en route to compiling 112 points. Shattering team records in wins (52) and points (112), they were led by coach Peter Laviolette.

Over the course of the season Ward played back-up goaltender to Martin Gerber, who started in 60 of the 82 games played.

And for wliw, Clarke MacArthur was awarded $2.4 (1.0 raise) million in arbitration ....and Atlanta walked away.

No they may not; however, I think it's plausible to use this off season awards as a "feeler" for which side they seem to be tilting.

Thanks... and I agree, they very well will use these off-season contracts as a sort of measuring stick.

Good for Zito and other agents, yes.
Good for team being taken to arbitration, no.

well 8 days until the hearing. I expect our offseason to pick up alot afterwards as we scramble to fill the roster
