No, thats not the question. The first question is should you trade Deng? Well assume the answer is yes for the sake of this discussion since that was part of the premise in your original post. So then, in your scenario, where you trade Deng and a 1st for a future 2nd, the question becomes, then what?

Once youve traded Deng, essentially, to clear cap space, then what do you do? Gay is not your only option. If you sign LeBron, then signing a shooter, which would be cheaper, becomes a better option.

That would be better. Ray Allen, Anthony Morrow, Kyle Korver, Mike Miller, and JJ Redick are names we should be discussing over Gay.

When/if you have two guys who can drive the lane like James and Rose, you need someone to keep the lane uncluttered via outside shooting. Adding another slasher just puts more congestion into the lane.

And, FWIW, having two slashers such as Rose and James, isnt bad because through spacing, you can punish a team for loading up to stop James. If 3 guys are shading LeBron, suddenly Rose has bigger openings. And vice versa. You dont really need Gay as much as a 3 point shooter to really round out the offense.

Like me, I love players who drive and not just shoot. Also Noah did that last year kind of to and Bosh will occassionally do that. That is where I think JJ would come in nice but the Bulls won't give him enought of money to come to Chicago.
