Is it smart for him to come back for 1 month?

Yes if the plan is to pitch him very carefully. Honestly wouldn't mind seeing them piggyback him with Lopez. Let him slowly work up his arm strength before shutting it down for the year. Again I don't want to see him jump from pitching under 50 innings this year to 150+ next year.

Would you think letting him be LR for rest of year be smart?

I would rather him be the starter to get regular work then the inconsistent workload of a long reliever. I kind of like the idea in September with the extended rosters of doing what they do in the minors which is having two SPs go back to back for 4 innings roughly.

The extended rosters will help for that. I just hope he comes back with same stuff he had

If he's fully ready to pitch with no complications, if not keep him out and pitching on the side. Mesa, etc...
