Couldn't disagree more with this statement. Wrigley Field is not THE problem. It is part of the problem though.

Why didn't the Cubs field talented teams? Because they didn't have to. Why didn't they have to? Because of Wrigley Field and WGN.

They milked the cash cow that is WGN and Wrigley Field to draw in the casual Cubs fan and the blue-haired grannies from Iowa to pack the place.

WGN was used to beat the "Come to beautiful, historic Wrigley Field" drum....and it is a superstation so that message went all across the USA. Casual baseball fans started packing the place just because it's Wrigley Field.

They knew that if Wrigley was packed every game no matter how bad the team was, they didn't have to put a winning team on the field to make their money.

I agree with all of that. My statement about Wrigley not being the problem is pointing out the fact that the stadium itself is not the reason for the Cubs losing. Many on here have stated that the ballpark itself factors in to the team losing because of the wind blowing in/out, etc. That's what I was stating. Your thoughts are correct, though from the advertising and marketing standpoint.

The actual deterrent from a competition standpoint is the player facilities.. We are lacking pretty bad in those.

I agree with that. But outside of building a new stadium, what other options are feasible? I've heard rumors about underground clubhouses/bullpens, but is that possible? It seems like Wrigley may be too old to go ahead with a plan like that.

I believe Henry is the man who gave Epstein the GM job when Epstein was only 28 years old. Epstein is very loyal to him. With some failed free agent signings such as Carl Crawford and a horrible pitching staff, Epstein won't leave Boston a mess to clean up. Even though the tug to accept the challenge of making the Cubs the winner is strong, I don't see him leaving Boston yet. One year left on his contract still. if he leaves now he will be torn about by Boston media for bailing after things failed. I think Epstein wants the Cubs job but the time really isn't right. 2 or 3 years down the road, Epstein would be more willing to leave Boston.
I wanted Bill James here 5 years ago, is he still available?.
