I think the Cardinals have been pretty clear that they are not going to go after Fielder if they weren't going to bring Pujols back.

I'm so on the fence w/ this. There are great arguments made both ways...he'd be great for us, but the back end of his contract would probably be over-paying.

I tentatively vote yes.

Big C is on a distinguished road

Default Fielder is. Of coming

The Cubs will not give him the years. Six years should be their limit
If Soriano has taught us anything it's steer clear of contracts that take
You past a Players prime years

The Soriano experiment is one that should never be repeated, and quite frankly, one that a rule should be put in place to prevent from ever happening again! I'm perfectly OK letting Fielder walk and join another team if it means not taking on another 7 years commitment to a 275lb below average defensive 1st baseman. I'm already thinking about all the errors Castro is going to get next year without Pena at 1st.

5 years MAX, maybe 6th year team option w/ 3-4mil buyout.

I think the Cubs have a chance to get him. But like FT said, Theo is playing it perfect. Waiting for the market to lower on him. No way the Cubs give him a 8-10 year deal. If Fielder goes else where, Theo is fine with that too.

There is a huge difference between Fielder and Soriano.

A) Soriano relied on his legs for value.
B) Soriano was older. Fielder is only 27.
C) Fielder is a much better player than Soriano.

Let's all just relax and watch Theo do his thang.
