Huge benefit for the Cubs to move him, but he's a poor man Bobby Abreu and Bobby didn't get a lot of action which is why I don't see Byrd as an asset

Bobby costs more and is older, which means he's basically useful as a DH and no longer OF. So it's a bit different.

Byrd isn't a superstar, but a guy who can play all three OF spots serviceably is useful.

Not Bobby now, check him out after the Yankees.

I think if we want anything in return for Byrd (even if he's included in a bigger deal) we'll have to eat half his salary.

Perhaps, but his salary isn't all that high so eating it I don't think gets you a usable prospect.

Just talked to one of my cousins...big Cincy fan. Said that they can't take on anymore salary and give prospects...but they need a CF and like Byrd.

Bobby got a 2-year deal worth $19MM after he left the Yankees. His option for $9MM should have vested for 2012. He's a corner outfielder turned DH who can get on base still. He was also 34 (going on 35) when he signed with the Angels. Byrd isn't that good at getting on base but plays a premium position (CF) well enough to stick there and is cheap. There's value to be had even if he sucks compared to Abreu. I don't think you should compare the two though.

It'll just be a build because this team has more holes in it than Roberto Luongo

Theo's really in a good spot...the division's not gonna be great...so 70-75 games is possible while we re-tool the farm.
