PS3 vs 360

As I own neither, trying to decide which one I would actually want if I did decide to buy one. But issues keep plaguing my mind the more I see/read. Always been with Playstation, but rather pissed at no backward compatibility. 360 seems most popular, but how many friggin technical issues are there? The games are virtually identical aside exclusives. 360 has titles thats got my interest, whereas PS3 hasnt many aside Metal Gear Anyway, whats the best or other pros and cons? Thanks all.

Playstation Network is not quite as good as xbox live but it really not that bad.... Especially for $0 per ever.

I traded my xbox in for the ps3. I never have technical issues with it and ALWAYS had problems with 360.

Game selection isn't really a big issue anymore..... Unless you love baseball.... Then youre screwed on xbox.

The thing about the technical issues with the x-box is that they are gone now... You rarely ever see threads or posts about the rrod anymore. And if anything I've been seeing more PS3 problems but that is because Microsoft finally got the xbox up onto the same level as PS3 manufacturing wise.

As for the online, X-Box takes this in a walk, the best online platform there is although you do have to pay for it (works out to be like 4 or 5 bucks a month) they IMO have a better product online that ps3.

I have both systems but realy only use the xbox, the only time I use the PS3 is for watching blue ray (b-ray players are cheap now)

If you want backwards compatibility for the PS3, go into your local Gamestop and ask if they have any launch PS3's. Ask for the 60 GB PS3. Thats what my buddy did, and he still plays his old PS2 games on it. Also any PS3 will still play PS1 games.

Here are the genre breakdowns. If you're only interested in one particular genre, then go with that console.

Shooters-360. And it's really not that close. Depends how Killzone 3 and Resistance 3 do next year when they come out for the PS3. COD runs better on the 360, Halo is still popular. Superior online capabilities for the 360 gives them the nod here.

Action/Adventure-PS3. Aside from the multiplatform games on each system (toss up), the PS3 has the Uncharted series, which is the #1 series out. I'm the biggest Metal Gear Solid fan, but the Uncharted series blows it out of the water. It's a console seller by itself. Metal Gear Solid 4 is quite amazing though. So is God of War 3.

RPG-PS3. Sony has always been about RPGs, Demons Souls (best RPG on any console), Valkyria Chronicles, Persona.

Sports-PS3. This would be dead even if it wasn't for MLB The Show. If you don't like baseball, then it's a toss up. All other games are almost even. The Show pushes the PS3 over the top. Dwarfs the 2K series.

Racing-(EDITED: Almost a year later, I'm switching this to 360 because Gran Turismo 5 pretty much failed and Forza is better)

Music- 360. Because of the online capabilities, the 360 is the way to go if you're a big Rock Band player. Downloading songs, connecting with friends to play. 360 is the way to go.

In terms of exclusives, each console has their stars.
360- Halo series, Gears of War series, Fable series, Forza series, Left 4 Dead series.

PS3- Resistance series, Killzone series, Uncharted series, Gran Turismo series, LittleBigPlanet series, God of War series.

The console exclusive pool is growing smaller though. PS3 lost Final Fantasy last year, and Metal Gear Solid too, since Rising will be on the 360 (though its more of a spin off from the series). 360 lost Dead Rising and Mass Effect, and Halo is done, Bungie is no longer making exclusive games.

If you've always been a PlayStation guy, there's no need to change now, just get backwards compatible PS3 from Gamestop. Easy as that. If you do get a PS3, Uncharted 1 and 2 need to be your first two purchases. Without a doubt, the best video game series right now. Uncharted 3 coming November 1, 2011.

Thanks all. Most of the games I play are usually on both. The Left for Dead series had my interest, love those zombie games But Resident Evil 5 is still out there. Sports, really only Madden, so not to concern in that aspect. And good ole GTA is on both. Shooters I like to a degree. Thats where its the hardest to really decide... Walmart I heard out here is giving a gift card of 100 with the PS3, so basically a 100 off the regular price, which is without a doubt, very tempting lol

Wow that is a great deal. PS3's are $299.99 I think now. With that deal you're buying a PS3 for the price of a Wii, lol. I think Amazon is doing something similar, but the $100 doesn't go towards the console, but you can get several great games for that $100. I could be making that whole thing up but I could swear I heard that Amazon had that deal.

I've got all three systems right now..

Each of my 360 and ps3 have been sent in once for the well documented problems. The Wii obviously hasn't had any issues.

For my playing value.. I play the ps3 about 80% of the time Wii 19% of the time and I'm letting my gf borrow the 360 since she decided to buy guitar hero for it. So that's 1% of the time.

May have to check out Amazon. Though depends on what games they'd slap someone with. I got a Wii, and havent really played it much lately. Tho if I had Goldeneye... lol. I know I want to update, PS2 is rather dead. Only finding games used and in a small section as all past gen systems end up. Rather sad lol
