https://www.chicagobears.com/news/butkus-anchors-all-time-bears-defensive-team

DE: Atkins, Dent
DT: Hampton, McMichael
OLB: Fortunato, Connor
MLB: Butkus
CB: McAfee, Tillman
S: Fencik, Petibon

Here is what I had earlier from the All-Time Bears team thread:

DE: Atkins, Dent
DT: Hampton, Musso
OLB: Turner, Connor
MLB: Butkus
CB: McAfee, Tillman
S: Fencik, Petibon

Musso is a HOFer while McMichael is not, but Musso played both ways and maybe Pierson-Pompei did not think of him as a DT. Not sure how Fortunato made it over Bulldog Turner.

Surprised no Roosevelt Taylor in the DB area.

He was mainly a cover guy and not a hitter/run supporter. He was by all accounts a very good player. George Allen got him for the last year of his career because Allen had coached Rosey with the 1963 Bears, and Rosey made the Super Bowl at age 35 as a starter for the 1972 Redskins.

Weird career. Had a big 1963 season with 9 interceptions, but only picked off 23 passes in the other 12 years of his career. Fencik and Petibon were better against the run and also had more INTs.

I can't argue with Butkus, but it's crazy that first ballot guys like Urlacher and Singletary don't even crack the list.

It's also amazing that I've watched numerous top 5 defenses over the past 20 years and the only one from those teams on that list is Charles Tillman who was only really highly regarded nationally later in his career.

I'd take Mike Brown over Fencik. I loved both players, but Brown was better.

Packers fans opened the thread looking for Amos.
