Thought this was interesting, as it treats the HOF as a comparative entity and not some purely subjective 'art gallery' of sorts.

Bonus for the Jerry Morales mention: "On the other end of the scale is Cub Stricker, a 19th-century second baseman; he is 0-833, meaning that he was not better than anybody who is in the Hall of Fame, and there are 833 other players in the study who were better than he was, but who are not in the Hall of Fame either. Just ahead of him is Jerry Morales, a 1970s Cub, who was 0-832. I’m sorry if that sounds like I am insulting Jerry Morales; it is not an insult to a player to say that he was not a Hall of Famer."

Anyway, I thought James did a good job highlighting how guys like Albert Belle and Juan Gonzalez aren't very good HOF candidates, and guys like Darrell Evans, Dwight Evans and Graig Nettles are much stronger despite relatively low batting averages.
