In other news, Cory Abbott is kicking the crap out of a pretty talented SD A ball team. That team has 5 of their top 30 prospects playing and 2 other guys who'd probably be top 30 on other teams list. Vs them he threw 6 innings giving up 2 hits 2 walks and had 11 k's. He's looking like a fairly legit 2nd round pick from last year.

That start was a welcome sight. Very nice. 7 IP, 1 H, 0 R.

Now watch -- Q is pitching a 1-hit shutout through seven, but I betcha anything that, because he just threw his 100th pitch of the evening, he doesn't come out for the 8th...

It was 10-0....what would be the point of pitching the 8th? If he went out for the 8th and blew out his elbow in a 10-0 game....Maddon would instantly be branded Dusty Baker part2.

Same team that ran up runs on Hendricks in the same day?

Come on man.
Ran up runs ?
He gave up 3 ER in 5 innings
Not quite running up runs
Hendricks been consistent all year

Quintana had a good start against a terrible reds team ..

Look im not rooting against him or hope he gets traded, i just want to see this guy start looking like he was worth trading Jiminez for ..

He been up and down all year..

5 of 9 starts getting at least 6 IP

5 games 3 or less runs
4 games of 4 or more runs

Not looking for 7 inning shutouts all the time , just be nice to get a string of QS going from him..

I get it... but I, maybe unlike a lot of y'all out there, can recall when a team carried six or seven pitchers. Starters were expected to pitch baseball games, not up to 100 pitches, or the start of the third turn through the opponents' order, whichever came first.

I recall when Don Drysdale was both one of the best two Dodger starters, and the Dodger "closer" -- of course, a closer was needed in, *maybe*, one in 30 ball games.

I will confidently predict that this current decade will be the *last* decade in which pitchers are allowed to try for 9-inning no-hitters. Beginning in a couple of years, even pitchers who are pitching perfect games will be pulled the moment they hit 100 pitches, or begin to face the opponents' batters for the third time during the game. The only no-hitter stat that will remain will be"staff" no-hitters. Complete game one- and two-hitters are almost completely extinct in baseball today.

Maybe it's just me, but IMHO, that lessens the game.

You realize that giving up 3 ER in 5 IP is a 5.4 ERA right?

What I was watching was Q was using his curve to set up curves out of zones more. and using his fastball sparingly.

When a pitcher has command he succeeds if he doesn't he doesn't. Simple as that. Q felt right finally and the results were shown. It was not about a piss team to beat up on.

Yeah, that's what the official Cubs website is saying, now. Lineup stands at:

Zobrist - 2B
Almora - CF
Rizzo - 1B
Contreras - C
Happ - 3B
Schwarber - LF
Baez - SS
Heyward - RF
Darvish - P

I'm assuming this is Joe trying to keep everyone rested while playing four games in three days. Note that Rizzo doesn't get any games off at all, and both he and Bryant played both games yesterday, though they were pulled early in the blowout.

I'm concerned with that side honestly. Could end up a nightmare. Hope the dads are ready to protect the kids from the incoming scuds.

You realize if he was allowed to pitch 1 more inning , hed had a QS right ?

I think you're trying to reach a little bit there..

3 ER in 6 IP is still a 4.50 ERA. Not really reaching. Hendricks was off. Q was on. Nothing else to be said.
