You can really break in down but I see it as the staff is pretty much a ground ball staff and 2B is at dislike. Value D at 2B.

Just a numbers game then.
Theyll probably use the defense as a reason why, but if he still hits like he has the last 2 yrs. , theyll be catching a lot of heat for making that move and not trying to trade him now

Not really.

The line up in general:

Vs R
Zobrist (major) Descanasio (minor) RF
Bryant 3B
Rizzo 1B
Baez 2B
Heyward CF
Contreras C
Schwarber LF
Russell SS

Vs L

Almora CF
Bryant LF
Rizzo 1B
Baez 2B
Contreras C
Heyward RF
Bote 3B
Russell SS

I don't see this as a huge deviation from what is happening now.

As far as the fans go. They are fickle. If he is hitting and playing clean D they shut up.

Any mistake the pitch forks will come out.

At best he has to keep them quiet.

I'm sure that what going to happen, I just think it BS to just hand it back to him..

They've been playing fine with Baez at SS and Bote/Descalso at 2B
Maddon just said recently he is going to come back and play short. He said he is still one of the best SS in the game. Theo said Russell continues to do everything they asked him to do and will continue on the program they gave him.

I'd rather they use Russell with say Monty and get more then a half way decent reliever who can close out games

A starting SS and a bullpen pitcher/5th starter for a halfway decent reliever?

Our 2B rotation is not good defensively yet many think it shines.

To be fair the production at 2B is a 116 wRC+ which is 4th best in the majors. If it was a less vital position they would leave it status que.

That is why I feel if they do make a change it would be with Schwarber. LF is a production position and he is limited in a platoon right now. If Almora turns the corner and starts igniting and they have to find AB's for Zo well...

Schwarber 63 wRC+
Amora: 18.

So the platoon is justified right now with their shit April's.

Saying they "shine" is a stretch but I'd say they are certainly adequate. You're not gonna throw 9 Gold Gloves out there....there are some defensive deficiencies on every team.

Assuming they just go ahead and play Russell every day at SS, I could actually see them playing Schwarber less and going with Bryant in LF and Bote at 3B or they can play Baez at 3B when they want to play Descalso or Zobrist at 2B with Bryant in LF

I've seen nothing since the WS that tells me Schwarber gonna be a good hitter

Outstanding start. Willson and Javy are the spark plugs. Let’s go Q.

So glad the Cubs ditched Contreras for one of those Mendoza-line pitch framers!
