Yeah, I don’t know what any of that means. He sucks.
Lol just kidding. I want to see the kid succeed. He made a couple great defensive plays today, too.
1. 23 yo player.
2. 585 PA's (normally you see a stabilization around 1000)
Example:
Schwarber 973 PA 28.8 SO% 13.5 BB% 117 wRC+
Almora: 632 PA 16.6 SO% 6.2 BB% 107 wRC+
Russell 1709 PA 24.6 SO% 8.5 BB% 91 wRC+ (SO's went from 28% to 22-24% after first full)
Baez 1500 PA 28.5 SO% 4.7 BB% 92 wRC+ Rookie season 41% then sat at 30% now he has dropped it another tier at 25%
What I see with Happ is a better pure wRC+ 113 and 118 walk rate 11.2% is better than most of these guys. He is up with Schwarber.
I'm seeing a .385 BABIP with a 40% SO rate and a 15% BB rate. So i take it as he putting the ball into play 45% of the time but he has been very lucky when he does. a .232 BA with a .355 OBA...it is almost too extreme.
What I think is happening is the same thing that happened to Schwarber. Lead off got into their heads that they have to take pitches and force walks vs being a hitter.
Some guys are born to it. The guys that you force into a unfamiliar situation in a crucial time in their development is a mistake.
