This signing is a bit more interesting than your typical 19th round pick. Laskey was the 94th ranked pitcher in the 2016 draft out of high school. I'm not 100% sure what changed but i think he dealt with injuries and may not have developed a good enough breaking pitch to get him drafted higher. Supposedly he had a really good change up out of high school and a pretty good fastball.
Also for what it's worth, the cubs appear on track to sign their top 30 pick picks. 31 hasn't given any public indication but he's a senior from notre dame so I assume he'll sign. 31 signed. Of the rest, not many seem likely to sign. 4 have indicated they wont. 3 are high school guys. 1 is a juco 1. One of those 3 high school guys is a guy from IL so maybe he is possible but i wouldn't count on it.
