It was suggested that one of the other teams was the Rangers. So Cubs, Rangers, and two other random teams. I'm going to guess Red Sox and maybe Oakland.

Yeah I would have been shocked if they didn't bid.

Let's get caught up ... the overpay los Angeles Dodgers win the bid at 25.7. The Cubs are believe to have came in 2nd around a 20 million bid.

That's the 3rd time the Cubs came in 2nd with an international free agent. Yoenis Cespedes, Yu Darvish and now Jin.

Pretty sure Ryu is the family name, but I could be wrong about that.

But yeah it seems likely that the Cubs were again second on a major league ready international talent.

Yah, Jon Heyman said the Cubs made an aggresive bid, but did not win. Today, he second the 2nd team bidded around 20 million. By that, I think the Cubs came in 2nd.

I dont think Jin going to come back and bite Cubs in ass but Cespedes and Yu would look awfully great right now in Cubs uni.

LA Times said Boras introduced Ryu today and compared him to Mark Buehrle. If he's to be paid like Buehrle too, then maybe the Cubs should've went after the real Buehrle instead :shifty:

And we supposedly outbid the Dodgers for Puig, refusing to lose, but he preferred something about the Dodgers. At the very least we were close.

Boras:

Agent Scott Boras says that Japan is a "very viable option" for Hyun-Jin Ryu next season if he doesn't reach an agreement with the Dodgers, according to Dylan Hernandez of the Los Angeles Times. The Dodgers bid $25.7MM last month for the right to exclusively negotiate with the South Korean southpaw, and have until Sunday to work out a deal. At the moment, the two sides appear to be far apart, says Hernandez.

I think the plan for Ryu is to try to pitch for Japan if he can't be in MLB next season anyway.

The Dodgers' negotiations with Ryu Hyun-Jin will go right down to Sunday's deadline, a team source tells ESPN.com's Jim Bowden (Twitter link). Los Angeles will lose negotiating rights with the Korean left-hander if a deal can't be worked out by Sunday. The two sides were thought to be far apart on Tuesday, though the Dodgers and agent Scott Boras had exchanged offers and were continuing talks.

6 years at 36 million. 1 million each year in performance bonuses, depending on innings.

Also, he can opt out after the 5th year if he reaches 750 innings.

For once I like the deal for LA and wouldn't think Scott Boras was his agent. Also, for once a team beat Boras in my opinion.
