That is a very very tall order, considering that Korver is the best three point shooter of all time.

Really? I am pretty sure that Ray Allen holds that title.

I didn't say he'd be a better 3 point shooter, just a better overall player.

I love Korver, but...not buying him as the best three point shooter of all time. He's way up there, but what about Ray Allen, Stephen Curry, and Reggie Miller?

Okay. He could be a better over-all player:)

I guess that it is mostly semantics. Miller is a HOFer and Curry will be. They both were/are better players than Korver. Allen? I'd take Korver as a pure shooter as a specialist. Hopefully, Mcdermott will be a very good over-all player eventually not merely a guy off of the bench.

Well I guess to your credit, Korver has the higher percentage. Ray made a living making difficult 3s though. And he wasn't just a spot up shooter. I'm pretty sure he'll earn himself a spot in the HOF based off of his current record of most 3s made. I guess it depends on what you define as being a good three point shooter, and that is semantics as you said.

I think McDermott will be a player with a pretty complete offensive game. He already can do the spot up shooter thing. He's got a post game that I think will be utilized more over time. He is a guy who can take it to the rim and finish with either hand...maybe not all the time, but he's found ways around his lack of quickness. I think over time, we'll be pleased with what we see.

In just the preseason and the Knicks game I saw that...Doug is a MUCH better man defender than Korver. Doug is better at creating his own shot off the dribble...Doug is light years better in the post...Doug is stronger, and exponentially more athletic...Doug is quicker...Doug gets his shot off faster...Doug finishes stronger at the rim...Doug is damned near equal the threat Korver was at the arch.

Basically, outside of a photo finish in 3 point shooting, Doug is a significantly better player on both ends of the court, and his history shows that can sustain a higher usage rate. Once Thibs finally puts him in to start over Dunleavy, McD is going to be a perennial all-star. The on the ball D that he showed me against JR, let me know that he is a complete player at his position. Far ahead of where I expected him to be.

Can get his shot off with either hand. Has damned near every post move in his arsenal, sinking them at a high percentage. Can pass and find the open man, shoot it from anywhere on the floor. And he has good athleticism by NBA standards. As high a basketball IQ as they come. Maintains a very high level of effort. Reads rebounds very well.

In short, the kid can flat out ball.

I agree with many things you said, but we will see times where Doug struggles on defense. It won't be for a lack of effort though...he definitely gives his full effort on both ends.

The higher the usage, the lower the percentage.

I see every player struggle on D at times. Now, from Thibs defensive rotations, yeah, Doug has a bit to go. But from an on the ball perspective, he is flawless from a fundamental standpoint. He also is not foul prone.

Korver has a very high usage from 3, most of his shots are 3s...though I don't believe that's what you're getting at. If I understand right, since Ray's over shot usage was higher (and his difficulty of shots also higher), his percentage took a hit. That's absolutely true.

One of the other things about Korver is that he has Thibs to thank for the improvements in his over-all game. When Korver joined the Bulls we was a for shit defender. Now he is at least average. Thats due to Thibs. Another thing is that he became a better player offensively in using his size to get to the hole on occasion. He is simply a better player than he was.
