It's been around since about 2010-2012. The handle relieves certain pressure on the hand, so a guy like Dustin Pedroia would have used it to avoid hurting his hand. IIRC, he had a broken hamate and this handle provides that relief. I personally use the Axe bats in their weighted bat training program. Using that handle in a program as physical as that makes a lot of sense to me. Now personally, I prefer a round handle for game swings, but the year the Astros won the World Series, George Springer was the MVP and he swings an Axe handle. IINM, Victus bats make the MLB models for them.
