Reading what Fangio Said somewhat scares me. He thought the game plan of having 52 drop into soft coverage most of the game turned out pretty good- it was not perfect but it affected Brady. Yeah, it affected Brady he was glad not to see 52 in his face. I read this article from CSN Chicago, I would have loved to seen Paces reaction to that statement. I hope this was a one game thing and not the norm off having 52 in soft coverage.. I want 52 stopping the run and scaring the shit out of the opposing QB and not ten yards off the line of scrimmage covering a wide receiver. I am not on the same page with Vic.

It sounded like a one-off thing to try to limit Brady's short passing attack

I'd be surprised if they try the same thing again against any other QB's

He seemed pretty happy with the results. He is turning a corvette into an escort. I do not go along with that passive defense. I feel 52 should be dong to things at least 90 percent of the time hunting and destroying the QB and stopping the run and soft coverage 10 percent at the very most. I want an aggressive damn defense. I don't want to see 52 playing in the damn secondary-get him to the line of scrimmage for maximum impact.

He held the Patriots to 24 points if special teams didn't shit the bed it would of been a win.

I don't want to see 52 moonlighting in the secondary. They could not stop that running game the last four minutes and in fact for most of the game why why why-52 is in soft coverage thats why. It was not a good game it was the worse game for 52 and it hurt the defense. I don't feel it was a success.

It did throw off Brady. The Bears actually threw off the Patriots offense in a pretty significant way, they didn't away with some of the shit they usually get away with.

Two of the TD's came off Bears special teams blunders. Classic Belichick, he found the weak spot of the Bears and pounded it. He's just incredible, no other team except the Patriots wins that game. That's not an excuse for Nagy, the fact that the Bears special teams are that bad is alarming and is one of the clearest signs that he may not be an NFL quality head coach. Seriously, of all the sky-is-falling rhetoric coming out this week that should be #1. The Bears have a talented, athletic bottom-third of the roster...why the hell are the special teams terrible? Its inexcusable.

But the defense was actually OK. Not great, it'll never be great when Mack isn't himself, but effective. Fangio's coverages are awesome. The guy knows what he's doing and exactly how to mix man and zone. The Bears rush though simply sucks without Mack. They aren't talented. Hicks and Goldman are good but they cant bring the heat themselves. Lynch can only succeed in the shadow of Mack and Floyd cant rush period. RRH and Nichols are literally their best chances at penetration when Mack is hobbled like this.

So to see Fangio using these guys the way he does with all these crazy fronts and coverages to even slow down an offense like Tommy TD's...I was a little impressed. Still overall pissed about the loss and worried as hell that Mack's injury isn't going to get better any time soon, but I am not panicking about the defense the way many people are.

Is Fangio now being setup to be the fall guy if they don’t make the playoffs this year?

When the Bears have 6 sacks against Darnold this week, the Fangio HC threads will come back... Fangio will be here next year. Deal.

I dont think anyone can say it was a bad game plan since Brady only got 24, but 52 should have been one of the 3 rushing the passer.

I guess, though, Fangio is a guy that thinks if a guy is in uniform he can use him whatever way he wants because if he was hurt enough, he would not be in uniform.

I would much rather sit Mack against the Jets and Buffalo and let him heal. This iron man streak can be forgotten for later in his career when he really will hurt the team.

While the Pats O "only" scored 24, we don't know what would have happened if their O got the ball instead of the special teams scoring.

GB went to a short passing game in the 2nd half against the Bears and scored on every 2nd half possession.

Miami went to a short passing game in the 2nd half and scored very often and quite quickly at that.

NE beat us with a short passing attack.

Seattle was able to score late in the 4th to get to within 1 score and an onside kick from getting a chance to win. The D has seemed gassed in the 4th, huffing and puffing. Some of that has to be on the coaching. Perhaps Nagy is taking it too easy on them. It was very alarming watching NE pound the ball down the Bears D late in the game when they knew NE was going to run it.

The tackling has been poor. Some of that has to be on coaching too, once again, perhaps not enough contact in camp.

Fangio is going to have to figure out how to better defend the short passing game because the model is out there for all future opponents. Continually giving up that short pass (bend but don't break) needs to be addressed by having the DBs be more aggressive at the line.

Exactly. We dont know what NE would have done if they had the ball on the Special team scores but still scoring 24 pts, imagine if they had Gronk.

Defense is dead last in the second half which is concerning.

Mack has no explosion. That combined with it being Brady is what resulted in Mack dropping back in coverage. Think Fangio knows Mack is limited as a pass rusher at the moment.
