Doesn't mean they won't sign him to a more cap-friendly long term deal before he ever sees that 5th year option money...

He's a great complimentary player that has a high ceiling. This was the smart move.

Look back at the starting D on the 85 Bears. There are some role players that helped that team be who they were.

Glue guy swiss army knife type of player. Happy he started to show why they traded up to get him.

This is the right decision.

With no 1st round picks coming up they do not really have the resources to upgrade him and he really was good in the 2nd half of the season.

The option is only guaranteed for injury, so they can use it as a placeholder to negotiate a long term deal at a better cap number for the next couple of years.

With their cap situation the transition tag is too much of a risk. When they placed it on Kyle Fuller they had 100 million in cap space and no reasonable fear of being screwed by the money and the structure.

He really took off against the run in the back third of the season

I see him getting at least 10 sacks next season, barring injury of course. Partly because of Pagano's aggressive nature, partly because he would have had a season and an offseason with Mack, and partly because he'll have full use of his hands.

He missed a tackle that could have easily been a safety and the difference in the game.

What is a reasonable contract for a below average pass rusher that gets stood up and knocked down a lot? Like how many millions for how many years?

Great against the run, solid pass rush, he was covering WR's on some downs and doing fairly well. This is a no brainer.

Nope, the RB was out of the endzone regardless of what the announcers said. It was close though. He also got the only sack in the game, so suck on that.

Something to think about will be how he fits into what Pagano wants to do. Floyd will probably be dropping into coverage less with Fangio gone, so he could see more sacks next year.

He could probably "see" Mack get a few more sacks.

Watching the game on replay helps a lot to see his Value. He played his role well regardless if it was pass coverage, run defense or pass rush (much improved in the final few games).

The most underrated part of his game was the ability to set the edge against the run. Rarely did you see anyone get around the corner on his side of the field and that allowed the likes of Hicks, Trevathan, Smith and others to make the tackle at or behind the LOS.

He is not a superstar, but he did his Job very well. The question is, can we get someone else to do the same thing but cheaper? In my opinion, not with the draft picks and cap space we are limited to.
