Didnt know wake was a f.a. Always been a fan of his however Pace seems to want to keep the team young. Im still on the Shane Ray train. Maybe we can unlock that potential?

Given that our linebacker issue looks more like a concern for depth instead of a starter, I would avoid long term deals. Signing a guy who is aging out of the league but still has isn't just budget friendly, it also doesn't load our team with a lot of risk. He can be let or (or not retained) with no issue, unlike contracts given to Sims or Parkey. Same goes for guys who need changes of scenary.

Let's not get tied up with multi year contracts for depth players. Wake is chasing a ring? So are we, bring him in. Ray needs a new opportunity to prove he isn't a bust? Try him out in a one year contract. But avoid Irvin or Smith, we'd not ever get production in line with their contract unless they can put up 8+ sacks from the bench. It's not an indictment of their talent, it's just a lot of money for limited snaps.

Nick Perry likely getting cut in GB, would be nothing more than a tire kick.

Suggs --
I'd probably go with the sure-thing of Suggs, last three years 15, 16,16 games, 8, 11, 7 sacks, good tackle and TFL numbers.

Not sure he'd go with only $5mil for only 1 yr, but if so, why wouldn't we?

- Mack, Floyd, Suggs, Irving, Fitts. We wouldn't even need to draft a OLB, unless Bears were going free Irving or Fitts to the PS (I don't see that).

- What's the chances we DON'T SIGN a FA, and just plan on drafting OLB?

Eli Harold would be my pick. I think he is going to be a very good player in the coming years.

Romeo Okwara is a RFA, no idea what kind of contract it would take.

I don’t think either can play in a 3-4 or in the Bears budget.

i just read curry was cut from tampa but i remember he had like 10 sacks for kelly as a 3-4 DE...personally i'd like to see him at 3-4 OLB...graham has played in a 3-4 OLB role just fine for chip kelly and ansah has the skillset to be successful as well...at the end of the day when the bears are in nickel/dime they will have their hand in the dirt as 4-3 DE as well. peppers was also someone who'd never been in a 3-4 that did just fine for green bay

^^ Graham will cost too much. Curry is more of a run stopping DE. Ansah had a terrible year but someone will pay him based on his prior dominance.

I'm thinking Pagano was in Balt when T.Suggs was a young man so wonder if that connection is strong enough for them to want to hook up in Chicago. He'd probably want to be a starter though and i think the way Floyd really came on the 2nd half of the year that he definitely deserves the starters role. Graham is very interesting but also would want to start i would think. E.Harold, M.Golden and S.Ray i'd try on cheap one year deals.

What do you think is more important:

Kicking the tires on a young player who 'might do better in Chicago' and can be signed long term?

Or getting a more sure thing contributor, especially as a pass rusher in the 6-11 sack range, regardless of age?

The latter.

For the love of God I do not want to see Clay Matthews in blue and orange.

Shane Ray is somebody I'd be interested in kicking the tires on. Some of the others are interesting but obviously dependent on cap situation after we deal with our own FAs.

I think if the price is right they should get a proven producer.

If Cam Wake wants a chance at a ring and. 1 year deal I am in.

It is close the fucking deal time in the playoffs, the Bears need proven ass kickers over speculative potential guys.

At 4 mil or so, I’d definitely snag Clay Matthews to be the 3rd OLB (if Lynch doesn’t re-sign).
